What this actually is
Claude SEO is an open source SEO analysis plugin for Claude Code. You point it at a URL and it fans out across the site, running sub skills in parallel for technical SEO, content quality, Schema.org markup, AI search visibility, local search and more. What comes back is not a list of complaints. It is a prioritised action plan, sequenced so that the thing you fix first is the thing everything else depends on.

Three things to be clear about before you start
These are the questions that decide whether this is the right tool for you, and the answers are all in the project's own docs.
- It is an ANALYSIS plugin, not an autopilot. It audits, scores and GENERATES artifacts for you: Schema.org JSON-LD, XML sitemaps, hreflang blocks, content briefs, competitor pages. It does not log into your CMS and rewrite your live site. You or Claude Code still apply the output.
- The free tier makes no third party API calls by default. It fetches the URLs you point it at and nothing else. That means Core Web Vitals are lab estimates and indexation is inferred from page level signals. Adding Google API credentials unlocks real field data and live indexation status.
- Recommendations are grounded in primary source guidance from Google, in particular the AI Optimization Guide at developers.google.com. Nothing here is a trained model with an opinion. Every recommendation carries the observation it rests on and an explicit check for how you would know it failed.
