FluidVoice, the Free Open-Source Wispr Flow: Ramble at Claude, Get a Clean Prompt, Even Offline

Press one key, talk, and a cleaned-up version of what you said is typed into any app on your Mac, from Claude to Slack. FluidVoice does it for free, with the speech model running on your own Mac, so it works with no internet. Wispr Flow Pro costs $15 a month, or $12 a month if you pay for the year, and its free plan stops at 2,000 words a week. FluidVoice is a free, open-source Mac app that does the same job: press one key, talk, and your words are typed into whatever app you're in. It has passed 11,800 stars on GitHub.

It's best with Claude. Ramble at it the way you'd explain a problem to a friend, and with its cleanup turned on, what lands in the message box reads like a prompt, not a transcript full of "um" and restarts. The speech model runs on your Mac, so it keeps working with the Wi-Fi off.

Why it can replace Wispr Flow

  • Price: FluidVoice is free and open source. Wispr's free plan caps you at 2,000 words a week on desktop, and unlimited means Pro: $180 a year paid monthly, or $144 paid yearly.
  • Offline: Wispr's own docs say an internet connection is required for transcription. FluidVoice turns speech into text on your Mac, so it types on a plane, on a train or on bad hotel Wi-Fi.
  • Privacy: Wispr says transcription always happens in the cloud. FluidVoice keeps your voice and your text on your Mac unless you choose to plug in a cloud AI provider.
  • Anywhere you type: it types straight into the app you're in, whether that's email, Slack, Notes, the Claude app or your terminal.

One catch up front: it's Mac only for now, and it needs macOS 15 or later. The details are in the setup below.
