AI Homepage: Claude Writes Your New Tab Like a Morning Newspaper
A free, open-source Chrome extension from an engineer on the Claude Code team. Claude reads the sites you actually visit and writes a fresh front page into every new tab, in any look you describe
AI Homepage replaces Chrome's new-tab page with one that's written for you. Claude looks at what you've actually been browsing, opens the pages you follow (signed in as you), and writes a fresh homepage from what it finds. It rebuilds itself in the background, so each new tab is up to date.
What it does (from the README)
- Ranks the sites in your history and opens up to 8 of them per build, in your signed-in browser.
- Writes one page from what it read: headlines, posts and links. Every link comes from a page it actually read; it is told never to invent a URL.
- Rebuilds automatically once your page is older than 6, 12, 24 or 48 hours (on by default, after your first build by hand).
- Follows any look you describe: a morning newspaper, a quiet one-column digest, a dense dashboard, a green-on-black terminal, a zine.
- Skips search engines, webmail, banking and logged-out marketing pages, plus any site you add to its block list.
How it works
The extension's background worker drives a Claude Managed Agents session directly, with no server in between. Two custom tools run inside the extension (getHistory for a ranked summary of your top domains, getPageHtml to open up to 8 pages); the agent reads those files in a sandbox with shell access off, then writes one React component that the new tab renders.
